UPDATE 8/24/22- You can watch a recording of the hearing below or click here. The birth center discussion starts at the 12:45 mark.

The Interim Joint Committee on Licensing, Occupations, and Administrative Regulations has announced that freestanding birth centers will be a topic on its agenda for the Wednesday, August 24, 2022 meeting. The meeting is scheduled for 10:00am EDT in room 154 of the Capitol Annex Building. (NOTE: The meeting was originally planned for 11:00am, but was moved to 10:00am due to the Governor calling the legislature into special session starting at Noon.)

Although the 2022 regular legislative session ended in April, work continues throughout the rest of the year when many committees hold interim meetings. In these meetings, House and Senate members meet together to hear presentations on topics that may come before them in the next legislative session. No votes take place at interim joint committee meetings, but it is a valuable time for legislators to learn and ask questions about pertinent topics.

The meeting is open to the public, and KBC invites you to join us and show support! Children are also welcome. It is a great civic learning opportunity. If your own Senator or Representative is a member of the committee or will otherwise be in Frankfort on Aug 24, it is a great opportunity for you to meet with them in person. You can also extend your visit with a tour of the State Capitol.
