Kentucky Home Birth Coalition is excited to team up with the Birth Care Network to host a screening of Freedom For Birth, a new documentary that reframes childbirth as the most pressing global Human Rights issue today. The film is launching with hundreds of premieres all over the world on the same day, Thursday 20th September 2012.Made by British filmmakers Toni Harman and Alex Wakeford, Freedom For Birth film tells the story of an Hungarian midwife Agnes Gereb who has been jailed for supporting women giving birth at home. One of the home birth mothers supported by Ms Gereb decided to take a stand and won a landmark case in the European Court of Human Rights that has major implications for childbirth around the world.The film also features many of the world’s leading birth experts and activists: Ina May Gaskin, Michel Odent, Sheila Kitzinger, Robbie Davis- Floyd, Dr. Sarah Buckley plus more academics, midwives, doulas, OB/GYNs, birth educators, campaigners, lawyers and parents.

After the film there will be a Q and A with the Kentucky Home Birth Coalition as well as information regarding the state of birth choices and home birth in Kentucky. KHBC will be asking for donations to support KHBC’s work to license Certified Professional Midwives in KY. Kentucky families have the right to chose their place of birth and birth attendant, and Birth Care Network supports all safe and positive birth options for women in our community.Join us in the Community Room at Commonwealth Bank in St. Matthews at 6:30 for socialization, and we’ll hit “play” at 7:00pm.
