With the Kentucky Home Birth Coalition’s first Lobby Day behind us, we want to encourage you to join us at the Capitol.  We understand that job schedules and parenting commitments may keep many from joining us, but we want to emphasize how easy (and dare we say… fun!) it is to meet with your legislator.

Just How Easy Is it?
Glad you asked!

1. Call your State Senator and ask to schedule a meeting on our Lobby Day.*
Find your SENATOR here.

Call your SENATOR’S annex phone number and ask to schedule a meeting.

“Hello, my name is _______ and I am a  *constituent* of Senator ______. I will be in Frankfort on February 23 with the Kentucky Home Birth Coalition and am available from 8:30am until 11:45am.  I would like to meet with Senator ____ to discuss SB 85.”

2. Let us know when you have your meeting scheduled.  A member of our Steering Committee and/or someone from our Lobbyist Team will meet you at the Capitol and be with you to speak to your Senator.  Meetings are short and friendly, usually well under 15 minutes.

3.  KHBC will provide you with handouts and the information to give your Senator.  You can also watch the recording of our info session: How to Talk to Legislators for an extra boost of confidence.

*What if I can’t meet on KHBC’s Lobby Day?
If you can’t join us on our Lobby Day, but are able to meet with your Senator on another day, let us know and we would be happy to meet with you and your Senator!

I want to help, but I can’t meet at all.

For those who can’t make the trip to Frankfort, you can still help!

You have the option of trying to schedule a meeting with your State Senator at their home office on a Friday or Monday.

You can also call your Senator try to set up a meeting for KHBC on your behalf.
“Hello, my name is _______ and I am a  *constituent* of Senator ______.  The Kentucky Home Birth Coalition will be in Frankfort on February 23 I would like for Senator _____ to meet with them to discuss SB 85.”

And of course, let us know the moment you get a meeting scheduled.

I’ve not had a home birth.  Does my Senator really want to hear from me?

Yes!  Absolutely yes!  Your Senator represents you and is interested in what you think.  It doesn’t matter where or how you’ve had your children, or if you have any at all.  We need EVERYONE who supports SB85 to contact their Senator and let him or her know that you support SB85.
